The Top 10 Things to Do in Pokhara

Forget all the usual top 10 things to do in Pokhara that everyone else posts about and get a look at the list I have put together for you. I have lived in Pokhara since November of 2015 and have come to learn that there are more things to do in Pokhara than the usual Paragliding , Trekking , or the Peace Temple . I’ve gathered a list of some of the fun things to do when in Pokhara that will make you feel more like a local and less than a tourist. So here they are, and convenient maps for you to find them, in no particular order. The Movie Garden is a unique experience situated in Pokhara’s North Lakeside, the property overlooks Lake Phewa (or Fewa). Guests are filed in on the sloped hillside on steps and various seating that all point towards the big screen. A you arrive you pay at the bar and order your alcoholic beverage – a beer, a hard cocktail or a customary hot drink to warm you as you snuggle under one of the provided blankets. Just In Time - Nepal's Fuel Crisis is Coming to a Close

With just a few weeks before i leave on my next adventure to Nepal, finally, there is some good news, and it is not just “cheap gas.” The Madhesi have changed their position on a closed border. The blockade has lasted about five months, closing the India-Nepal border, effectively reducing medical supplies, petroleum products, etc. The new Nepalese premier, Prime Minister KP Oli, announced an open border on February 8, eleven days before he travels for meetings in India. Numerous trucks, tractors, containers, various cargo vehicles, and one “dumper” crossed the unobstructed border as soon as the critical Miteri bridge was clear. The United Democratic Madhesi Front had blocked cross-border commerce since September. Local businesses had been pressing for an open border and have now succeeded in their initiative by eliminating barriers used by sit-in demonstrators occupying the Miteri bridge at the Birgunj-Raxaul border crossing. Despite attempts by some to re-establish the bloc...

Arnakot Computer Lab Nepal Project 2015

In November of 2015 myself and three other female volunteers traveled from India to work on the Computer Lab Nepal project. After spending two weeks in India’s Odisha recovering from hostility from the locals and being cooped up in our host families home and not allowed to leave our donated ambulance transport arriving in Nepal was a bit of a shock to the system. The project I was working on was spearheaded by Prem Kunwar, a very nice Nepali man who dedicates his life to providing for his people in honor of his deceased sister, and the organization Karma Flights who’s parent organization is Cloudbase based in the US. Both organizations are founded and managed by paragliding pilots who are passionate about giving back. The woman who was heading up the project on our end was Kara Moyes, who’s Husband is a paraglider connected with Karma Flights founder Matt Cone. Working with the organization Orphans to Ambassadors, Kara partnered with Prem in fundraising and organ...
